Bangladeshi found dead at Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi man was found dead on the Indian side of the Dona border in Sylhet's Kanaighat yesterday (29 August).
According to eyewitnesses, the body of Abdur Rahman, 40, was found yesterday afternoon near the 1,339th border pillar. The body was yet to be recovered although 24 hours had passed, locals said.
Speaking to The Business Standard today (30 August), Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Awal said, "We have received information about a man's body lying on the border. Police have gone to the spot, and begun the process of handing over the body in coordination of the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF)."
Meanwhile, locals alleged that the man was shot by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.
According to local sources, Abdur Rahman, along with a few others, had gone to the border area yesterday afternoon to transport buffaloes. BSF personnel allegedly fired several rounds at them.
Nurul Islam, a member of Ward-1 of East Lakhiprasad union, said four others were injured in the incident. The wounded include Jamil Ahmed, Hosen Ahmed, Aynul Haque, and Jumil Ahmed, though full identification details were not immediately available, he added.
