Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions, emphasising the need for justice and adherence to international law.
Speaking at the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey today (21 June), the adviser strongly condemned Israel's recent "unlawful and aggressive" military attacks on Iran, reads a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Touhid described the assaults as blatant violations of international law, the UN Charter, and Iran's sovereignty.
"Such reckless actions by Israel pose a serious threat to regional stability and global peace and security," he said, urging an immediate end to these provocations and a return to diplomacy and respect for international law.
He also reiterated his call for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression in Palestine and stressed the importance of OIC's united and vocal stance in demanding justice through the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC). "Our solidarity must translate into strategic and sustainable actions," he said.
Highlighting the Rohingya crisis, the adviser expressed deep appreciation to the OIC for including the issue as a strategic priority in its 'Ten-Year Programme of Action' and for its legal efforts at the ICJ. He called for increased diplomatic pressure on Myanmar and financial support for the ongoing legal proceedings.
Touhid also urged the OIC to play a more effective and comprehensive role in addressing internal conflicts in the Muslim world and combating Islamophobia. He emphasised the need to enhance the institutional capacity, accountability, and implementation mechanisms of the OIC in the face of global and regional challenges.
On the sidelines of the conference, the adviser held bilateral meetings with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, and Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The two-day OIC conference commenced this morning, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivering the inaugural address. A special session on Israeli aggression against Iran was held in the afternoon.
