The Bangladesh Navy has provided financial assistance to the family of freedom fighter (FF) and retired member of the force, late Bir Bikram Abdul Khaleq.
A check for taka 5 lakh was handed over to his wife as financial assistance on Wednesday said a press release issued by Bangladesh Navy.
Bit Bikram Abdul Khaleq was suffering from geriatric illness for a long time and breathed his last on July 30, 2020 while undergoing treatment.
He left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters and a whole host of well wishers to mourn his demise.
The Navy extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
The late Abdul Khaleq Bir Bikram was born in Chapal village of Deopara union in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.
He joined the Pakistan Navy on 1 June 1963 and voluntarily retired in 1969.
He took part in the great Liberation War of 1971 with great courage and fought against the invading forces in Sub-Sector-4 under Sector 7.
During the war of liberation, this heroic freedom fighter was shot in the chest by bullets fired by the enemy while destroying the camp of the invading forces at Khetur village of Premtali union of Godagari upazlia in Rajshahi district.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the great war of liberation, the Government of Bangladesh conferred the title of 'Bir Bikram' to him.
