Bangladesh will get Covid-19 vaccine at the beginning of January, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.

The minister made the disclosure today while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the nationwide measles-rubella campaign-2020 from December 12 at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons auditorium in the capital.

"The government is all set to get the corona vaccine," said Health Secretary Abdul Mannan. "We have already been able to secure vaccines for 4.5 crore people. Till those arrive, mask is the only way to stay safe."

The health minister said, "The economy of many countries is in bad shape due to the pandemic, but Bangladesh is in a good situation. That is why the development activities are continuing."

He said that the average life expectancy of Bangladesh is increasing due to vaccines and the risk of infant and mothers' death is decreasing. Some 90 percent of the country's children have been brought under vaccination programme.
