Assistant engineer of Cumilla City Corporation arrested

Police have arrested Md Tofazzal Hossain, an assistant engineer of Cumilla City Corporation, in connection with two cases filed over attacking the rallies of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement during the July uprising.
He was detained late last night (8 June) around 11:30pm from the Changini Mor area on Kotbari Road in Cumilla city by police from the Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station.
Tofazzal Hossain, a resident of the same area, is the son of Sultan Ahmed. He is also the younger brother of former councillor of Ward No. 23 and expelled joint convener of the Metropolitan Jubo League, Alomgir Hossain.
Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest, stating that Tofazzal was detained in connection with the student movement attack cases. He also mentioned that Tofazzal is an accused in a separate 2020 murder case involving local businessman Akhtar Hossain in the Changini area, for which he is currently out on bail.
Tofazzal will be presented before the court today (9 June) after being formally shown arrested in the two student movement attack cases.
According to police and local sources, two separate cases were filed against him at the Sadar Dakshin and Kotwali Model police stations after 5 August last year on charges of attacking the rallies of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. He was named as a prime accused in both cases. Despite this, he had been regularly attending work and was even acting as the officer-in-charge in the absence of the councillors in Ward No. 11.
