Arson attempt at Grameen Bank branch in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali
Police visited the scene immediately after the incident and have intensified patrols in the area.
Unidentified individuals attempted to set fire to the Panti branch of Grameen Bank at Chourangi Bazaar in Panti union of Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila today (21 November).
No major damage occurred as the fire was extinguished promptly.
Confirming the matter, Kumarkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khondoker Ziaur Rahman said a petrol-filled bottle was recovered from the scene.
Police visited the scene immediately after the incident and have intensified patrols in the area.
Ismail Sheikh, night guard of the branch, said, "I was inside. The Fajr call to prayer was going on. Suddenly the fire broke out, and I started shouting. The miscreants then fled."
He added that the attackers inserted banana leaves through a small hole in a closed window, poured petrol, and ignited it. It took about half an hour to put out the fire, he said.
Md Shahjalal, manager of the branch, said, "Even though the night guard was inside, the miscreants managed to pour petrol through the window and set fire. Luckily, no damage occurred. We are taking legal action."
