Arrest warrant issued against Sajeeb Wazed Joy in case over internet shutdown
Appeals have been filed for showing Palak r Anisul arrested in two new cases
An arrest warrant has been issued against Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT affairs adviser, in a case filed over crimes against humanity by shutting down the internet and carrying out mass killings during the July Uprising last year.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has accepted formal charges against Sajeeb Wazed Joy and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak in the case. An appeal has been filed to show Palak arrested in the case.
In a separate case filed over mass killings carried out after the imposition of curfew during the movement, the tribunal has accepted formal charges against former law minister Anisul Huq and the former prime minister's industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman. The tribunal has ordered both of them to appear before the court on 10 December.
The orders were delivered today (4 December) by Tribunal-1, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumdar. The next hearings for both cases have also been scheduled for 10 December, and Palak has been directed to appear on the same day.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim, who represented the state, requested an arrest warrant for the absconding accused in the case, which the court later granted.
According to Prosecutor Tamim, the investigation reports in the two separate cases involving the four accused were received on Wednesday (3 December) night.
