Armed assailants detonated a crude bomb and looted Tk2.5 lakh along with five mobile phones from a businessman in Gazipur's Konabari area last night (23 August).
The victim, Aminul Islam, 35, was also injured in a machete attack during the robbery. He has been running a bKash agent shop at Haji Market for several years.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police's Konabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Salauddin said, "A team of police was sent to the spot immediately after the incident. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the attackers."
According to Aminul, he was closing his shop around 10:30pm yesterday and heading home when two men got out of a white private car and intercepted him.
"I tried to run in fear, but they struck me with a machete. When I fell, they took my bag containing Tk2.5 lakh and five phones used for bKash transactions. While fleeing, they also detonated a crude bomb to create panic," he said.
As of 12pm today (24 August), no complaint had been filed. A case will be registered once a complaint is received, OC Salauddin added.
