Chattogram Medical College Hospital is set to receive one more catheterisation (cathlab), or angiogram machine, next month, to boost cardiac care amid the growing pressure of cardiac patients at the institution every day.

The machine will be brought from Manikganj Medical College Hospital, according to the health ministry.

Earlier, on 8 May, the Health Services Division of the health ministry, in a letter, issued instructions to relevant officials to transfer a cathlab out of the two cathlabs at Manikganj Medical College Hospital to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

The letter noted that the decision was made considering increasing pressure of patients at CMCH, and said one of the two machines at Manikganj hospital has been lying unused.

According to the CHCM Cardiology Department, one of the two angiogram machines at the hospital has remained dysfunctional since 2021.

According to CMCH, its 60-bed Cardiology Department provides care to an average of 300 patients per day.

CMCH Director Brig Gen Mohammad Taslim Uddin told TBS that funds have already been allocated to bring in the angiogram machine to the hospital. "We have communicated with the DG of the Directorate General of Health Services. Hopefully, the machine will arrive before the end of mid-July."
