Constituency demarcation: Proposal for amendments goes to advisory council tomorrow
The Election Commission has proposed three amendments to the act to streamline the delimitation process

A proposal to amend the Delimitation of Constituencies Act, 2021 will be presented at the advisory council meeting tomorrow (20 March).
The Election Commission has proposed three amendments to the act to streamline the delimitation process.
The amendments focus on Sections 4, 6, and 8 of the act.
In Section 4, the amendment suggests the creation of a high-level committee to oversee the commission's duties concerning the delimitation of regional boundaries. Section 6 proposes adjustments to consider not only the population of an area but also the number of voters, geographical conditions, ethnic characteristics, and communication facilities.
Section 8 introduces a new provision for the delimitation of regional constituencies, with a proposed wording change.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, "We have proposed these amendments to simplify and improve the delimitation process. The proposal will be discussed at Thursday's advisory council meeting."
