Ambassador Miller visits Cox’s Bazar

Earl R Miller, the United States ambassador in Bangladesh, visited Cox's Bazar from September 13 to 15. During the 3-day visit, he met with the members of organisations, providing assistance to the Rohingya refugees, and communities, providing them with shelters. 

"The United States recognises the challenges the refugee crisis has posed for the local communities and the Bangladeshi government," said a US Embassy press release on Monday. 

Over 700,000 Rohingya Muslims entered Bangladesh, following a military crackdown in Myanmar's Rakhine state in August 2017, taking the number of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh past 1.1 million.

The United States is providing aid to the communities that has hosted the Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar, a south-eastern district of the country; the US assistance is playing a role in providing improved access to healthcare, and enhanced economic and educational opportunities to these host communities. 

"We will continue with our partnership with the government, as well as, international and non-governmental organisations to address the refugee crisis in ways that uphold humanitarian principles, while, at the same time, benefiting all the local people in Cox's Bazar," concluded the embassy's media release.
