The 26-day Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025 commenced in Chattogram today (1 February).

Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Housing, Public Works, and Industries, inaugurated the event at the gymnasium ground of MA Aziz Stadium.

Organised by the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), the book fair will run until 26 February. Visitors can access the fair from 3pm-9pm on regular days and from 10am-9pm on holidays.

In his address as the chief guest, Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan highlighted the historical significance of the book fair, linking it to the transformative role of students who reshaped Bangladesh by overthrowing a 15-and-a-half-year-long fascist regime.

He emphasised that book fairs have played a pivotal role in nurturing cultural and intellectual growth since 1952.

He said, "We must remember that fascism can attempt to return at any sign of weakness. The unity of the masses will propel Bangladesh forward, enabling the nation to stand tall. The spirit of 21 February symbolises resilience and defiance."

Speaking at the vent, Chattogram City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain underscored the role of students and workers in every pivotal movement of the nation—from 1952 to 1971, 1990, and 2024.

"The struggle to protect fundamental and democratic rights has always been fueled by a rich knowledge base. Reading remains indispensable for progress," he said.

The event was graced by Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin and DIG of Chattogram Range Md Ahsan Habib Palash, who spoke as special guests.

Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, CEO of City Corporation and convener of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair Chattogram-2025, delivered the welcome speech.

Other notable attendees included Chief Education Officer Dr Kissinger Chakma, Education Officer Mosammat Rasheda Akhter, Creative Publishers Council representatives Shahabuddin Nipu and Ali Proyas, CDA Board Member Zahidul Karim Kochi, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Coordinator Ibn Hossain Ziyad, and Social Welfare and Culture Officer Mamunur Rashid.

The event featured the unveiling of a book titled Shreyasi. Following the inauguration, guests enjoyed a vibrant cultural programme.
