Amar Desh, a Bangla daily that was closed in 2013 by the then Awami League government, is set to hit the newspaper stands again this year.
Mahmudur Rahman, the former acting editor and publisher of the daily, made the announcement during a press briefing at the National Press Club in Dhaka today (18 October).
"I will put Amar Desh newspapers in your hands again within the upcoming December. Amar Desh will once again speak for the people, against Indian expansionism and looters," he said.

Taking a jibe at the ousted Awami League government, Mahmudur said, "The fascist [Sheikh] Hasina government has completely destroyed the printing press of Amar Desh. There has been a total loss of about Tk35 crore, including Tk25 crore for damage to printing machinery and Tk10 crore in terms of loss of the newspaper and other materials.
"It will take a long time to set up a new press. But conspiracies are already brewing against the country. Newspapers like Amar Desh are necessary to foil these conspiracies."
"Amar Desh will stand for the sovereignty of the country, beyond corporate interests, beyond any party's interests… That's why Amar Desh needs to be launched quickly. We have decided that Amar Desh will be printed from two other presses," he added.
