AL leader arrested at Dhaka airport over attacking students during July uprising

Police have arrested Masudur Rahman Masum, senior vice-president of Awami League's Sonargaon upazila unit and former chairman of the Pirojpur Union Parishad, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
He was apprehended while passing through immigration at the airport this morning (12 May), said Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mofizur Rahman.
Masum is accused of launching armed attacks on student protesters during the 2024 July uprising, and multiple murder cases have been filed against him at Sonargaon Police Station, OC Mofizur said.
Masum is currently in the custody of the immigration police and after interrogation, he is expected to be handed over to Sonargaon police, the OC added.
