A delegation of protesters, demanding for the increase of the age limit for government jobs to 35, went to the CA's residence to meet with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

They entered the State Guest House Jamuna around 5:30pm today (30 September).

Earlier around 3:30pm, the protesters held a press conference in front of the CA's residence, declaring their desire to meet Dr Yunus.

At the briefing, they stated that they would not engage in discussions with anyone else and vowed to continue their movement until a meeting with the chief adviser took place.

During the press conference, they issued a one-hour ultimatum for the meeting. Subsequently, a delegation of the protesters was granted an audience with the chief adviser.

Govt forms body amid protests over age limit in public service

Earlier in the day, police and a group of protesters locked in a scuffle in front of the residence of the chief advisor of the interim government.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters from the spot. Several people, including journalists, were reportedly injured during the scuffle.

Prior to that, the protesters held a rally in front of the National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh, joined by students of educational institutes from different parts of the country, alongside men and women of different ages.

Around 1:30pm, the protesters broke a police barricade and marched from Shahbagh to the CA's residence. Around 2pm, the police fired several rounds of tear shells to disperse them.

Protesters said due to various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic, political unrest, and session jams, many had crossed the age limit of 30 without being able to complete their studies and apply for government jobs.

In this situation, they demanded that the age limit be increased to a maximum of 35.
