Advisers inaugurate first July martyrs' monument in Narayanganj
The grieving mother of slain student Mohammad Adil urged the state to preserve the graves of the martyrs and ensure justice for their families
The first official monument commemorating those killed during the July 2024 mass uprising was inaugurated today (14 July) in Narayanganj.
The "July Shaheed Smritistambha" was unveiled in the presence of family members of those killed and wounded in the student-led mass movement that toppled the Awami League government.
The ceremony was attended by several key members of the interim government, including Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, Education Adviser CR Abrar, and Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.

Addressing the event, Adilur Rahman Khan said work was underway to transform the Ganabhaban — the former prime minister's official residence — into a museum of resistance against fascism.
"The regime that persisted over 15 years ended in a 36-day-long people's uprising. The memorials will preserve that struggle and honour the sacrifices," he said.
Rizwana stressed that "true honour to the martyrs lies in building a just and equal Bangladesh". She called for finalising compensation for the wounded and ensuring that state violence is never repeated.
Meanwhile, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said trials are ongoing for those accused of ordering violence during the uprising, and vowed to complete them within the interim government's tenure.
