Adviser Jahangir hints at lottery system for OC postings ahead of polls
SPs have been assigned to 64 districts through a lottery system after dividing the districts into three categories, says Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
As the national election approaches, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (26 November) indicated that a lottery-based system used for posting superintendents of police (SPs) could also be applied to officer-in-charge (OC) assignments.
Talking to reporters after a review meeting of the Annual Development Programme of the Ministry of Agriculture, which Jahangir also oversees, at the Secretariat, the adviser said no meritorious officers have been left out in the SP postings in 64 districts, reports UNB.
The SPs have been assigned to the districts through a lottery system after dividing the districts into three categories, considering law and order, Jahangir added.
Responding to a question on the lottery system, the adviser said, "Yes, the news is correct. The lottery was conducted exactly as planned. We established three categories – A, B and C – not based on district size but on law and order."
After categorising the districts, the adviser said, officers were assigned accordingly.
"Out of a total of 64 SPs, 18 were reassigned, while others remained unchanged. The lottery then decided which officer would go to which district, based on luck," he added.
Asked if the same system would apply to OC postings, he replied, "'Insha'Allah."
