The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina for questioning on 8 May in connection with allegations of large-scale corruption related to airport development projects during her tenure.

The summons letter, signed by ACC Deputy Director Monirul Islam, was sent to her residence at Sudhasadan in Dhanmondi. A senior ACC official confirmed the development to TBS today (7 May).

The ACC's letter stated that failure to appear on the scheduled date would be interpreted as Sheikh Hasina having no statement to offer regarding the matter.

According to ACC sources, Sheikh Hasina is being summoned to provide explanations regarding allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of thousands of crores of taka in the name of airport development over the past 15 years.

In January, the ACC filed a case involving the embezzlement of around Tk900 crore from four development projects involving three international airports. The case named 19 accused, including Sheikh Hasina's former military advisor Tarique Siddique, former civil aviation secretary Mohibul Haque, and former CAAB (Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh) chairman M Mafidur Rahman, identifying them as key figures in the alleged misappropriation.
