The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi and his wife Hasina Gazi on charges of amassing Tk33.2 crore beyond known sources of income and suspicious bank transactions.

ACC Director General (prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development to the media today (5 March).

According to the case statements, Golam Dastagir Gazi, former member of parliament from Narayanganj-1, has allegedly acquired illegal assets worth Tk23.51 crore. Additionally, he has reportedly made suspicious transactions totalling Tk257.75 crore across six bank accounts.

ACC investigations revealed that Gazi owns assets worth Tk448.42 crore, while his legitimate income stands at Tk424.90 crore.

Meanwhile, his wife, Hasina Gazi, has been accused of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk9.69 crore and made suspicious transactions amounting to Tk31.69 crore across five bank accounts.

The commission began its investigation against Gazi in August last year.

However, the ACC director general did not disclose the exact period during which the transactions took place.
