ACC to seek asset statements from Summit chairman Aziz Khan, wife, daughter
According to the ACC’s enquiry report, no information on immovable property has been found in the name of Mohammad Aziz Khan
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the issuance of notice seeking asset statements from Summit Group Chairman Mohammad Aziz Khan, his wife, and his daughter over alleged discrepancies between their declared income and assets.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter to journalists during a regular briefing today (14 December).
According to the ACC's enquiry report, no information on immovable property has been found in the name of Mohammad Aziz Khan. However, records show movable assets worth a total of Tk330.94 crore registered in his name. No liabilities or outstanding debts were found during the inquiry. A review of his income tax documents shows that he did not declare any immovable property, which the ACC considers inconsistent.
The report further states that Mohammad Aziz Khan is accused of acquiring assets by syphoning money out of the country to destinations including Singapore. However, only a small amount of assets has been shown in his income tax records, which does not correspond to his actual income. For these reasons, approval has been given to issue a notice under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, requiring Mohammad Aziz Khan to submit an asset statement.
Similar discrepancies have been identified in the case of his wife, Anjuman Aziz Khan. The ACC's inquiry found that she owns immovable property worth Tk1.57 crore and movable assets worth Tk91.05 crore, bringing her total assets to Tk92.62 crore. No liabilities were found in her name either.
The ACC said indications suggest that the actual value of the immovable property shown in her income tax records is significantly higher than what has been declared. There is also a clear mismatch between her reported income and declared assets. She too is accused of acquiring wealth by transferring money abroad. As a result, approval has been given to issue an asset statement notice against Anjuman Aziz Khan under the ACC Act.
In addition, the commission has approved the issuance of a separate order requiring an asset statement from Mohammad Aziz Khan's daughter, Ayesha Aziz Khan. The inquiry found assets in her name amounting to Tk287.43 crore, including immovable property worth Tk7.66 crore and movable assets worth Tk279.77 crore.
A review of Ayesha Aziz Khan's income tax records indicates that the declared value of her immovable assets may be significantly lower than their actual value. Discrepancies have also been found between her declared income and assets.
In this context, the Anti-Corruption Commission has approved the issuance of three separate notices under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, requiring Mohammad Aziz Khan, his wife Anjuman Aziz Khan, and their daughter Ayesha Aziz Khan to submit detailed asset statements.
