AB Party, IRI exchange views over interim govt's activities, reform process

The USA-based non-governmental organisation International Republican Institute (IRI) today (7 October) exchanged views with Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party over the activities of the interim government, reform process and the next polls.

An IRI delegation exchanged the views at a meeting with AB Party leaders at the party's central office in the city, according to a press release.

The IRI delegation members included Acting Resident Programme Director Joshua Rosenblum, Acting Resident Programme Manager Christopher Brennan, Senior Programme Manager Amitabha Ghosh and Bangladesh Office's Programme Manager Ruaksana Haque.

Besides, AB Party Member Secretary Mojibur Rahman Manju, joint member secretaries Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, Barrister Zubair Ahmed Bhuiyan and Bangladesh Supreme Court Lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun, Assistant Member Secretary and Shadow Committee Affairs In-Charge Barrister Sani Abdul Haque and AB Mohila Party In-Charge Barrister Nasreen Sultana Mily were present at the meeting.

The AB Party leaders apprised the IRI delegation of the politics of new generation and how they want to bring changes in the political landscape through policy based politics.

They also informed about their plan to expand party activities across the country, especially the expansion of the organisation outside the capital.

The AB Party leaders said it is the right time to work for protecting the democratic values without any fear or intimidation.

During the meeting, they discussed the activities of the interim government while AB Party member secretary informed the IRI delegation about the party's recent meeting with the Chief Adviser where the party placed six observations and 11-point proposals regarding the subsequent work of the interim government.

The AB Party leaders briefed the delegation about their thoughts on ensuring justice and accountability for different mass killings, crimes against humanity, gross violations of human rights and money laundering during the regime of the previous fascist government.

Recalling the historic sacrifice of thousands of youths in the July students-people uprising, the party leaders vowed to build a new progressive Bangladesh and establish the second republic and a welfare state for all in true sense while IRI delegation welcomed AB Party's activities in building new Bangladesh.
