Seventy-five followers of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) have crossed into India through Benapole check post in Jashore today (4 December) after completing immigration process.

Confirming the matter, Benapole Immigration Officer-in-Charge Imtiaz Ahmed told The Business Standard that the followers came to Benapole from Dhaka, Munshiganj, Mymensingh, Bogura, Rajshahi, Khulna, Bagerhat and various other districts of the country,.

They entered India at 5:30pm, he added.

The group, led by Nitaai Dayal Das, principal of the Iskcon temple in Savar, said they were traveling to India to participate in religious rituals.

Meanwhile, import-export and passenger traffic between the two countries has been normal since yesterday morning through the Benapole-Petrapole land port, said Abdul Gani, revenue officer at Benapole Customs House.

Earlier, on 30 November and 1 December, immigration authorities turned back 83 Iskcon followers attempting to cross into India through the check post.
