Chinmoy Krishna Das granted bail in 2 cases, remains behind bars
Chinmoy will not be released immediately because of the other cases against him.
The High Court has granted bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, suspended ISKCON leader and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagran Jote, in two cases filed over allegations of obstructing police duties and vandalism, but will remain in jail as he faces several other cases.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order today (6 September).
Advocate Apurbo Kumar Bhattacharya represented Chinmoy Das in court and said the two cases were filed with Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram on 26 November 2024 over allegations of obstructing police duties and vandalism.

The High Court granted bail after making the rules absolute in the two cases. However, Chinmoy will not be released immediately because of the other cases against him.
Chinmoy was arrested in a sedition case filed earlier by Firoz Khan, general secretary of the BNP's Chandgaon-Mohra Ward unit in Chattogram, on 31 October 2024. The case accused Chinmoy and 18 others of sedition.
His bail rejection in that case triggered a disturbance among his followers at the Chattogram court premises on 26 November 2024, which led to a clash.
During the violence, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death. Around two dozen people were subsequently arrested over their alleged involvement in the killing.
Several other cases were also filed in connection with the incident.
