Seventy java fish, caught in the nets of fishermen in Arpangasia River of West Sundarbans in Satkhira, were sold for Tk1.57 lakh today (28 September).

Majid Gazi, a resident of Sora village of Shyamnagar upazila, said he caught the fish with seven other fishermen in the last 15 days. 

"We went fishing together in the Sundarbans with permission from the Forest Department," he added.

Bakkar Ali, the buyer, said the weight of each fish ranges from 200 grams to 1,800 grams. 

"Java fish gills are quite expensive. A buyer from Chattogram purchased them from me to export to China. They make soup with it, particularly during the winter," Ali said.
