Power restored in Satkhira after 2.5-hour outage caused by power grid fire
The power supply was restored at around 1:40pm. In a few remaining areas where it is still unavailable, electricity will be restored shortly
Electricity supply in Satkhira was restored after two and a half hours today (20 September), following a fire that broke out at the T-3 transformer of the Binerpota power grid late in the morning (30 September).
The incident occurred shortly after 11am, leading grid authorities to shut down all feeders connected to the Khulna grid.
Confirming the matter, Satkhira Palli Bidyut Samity General Manager Shonot Kumar Ghosh said, "Fire Service personnel managed to bring the fire in one of the transformers under control within 20 minutes."
West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd Executive Engineer Soaib Hossain said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
"Currently, the entire district is without power. All supplies from the Khulna grid to Satkhira have been suspended. A technical team has already started from Khulna to inspect the site," he added.
"The power supply was restored at around 1:40pm. In a few remaining areas where it is still unavailable, electricity will be restored shortly," Soaib Hossain told The Business Standard at around 1.50pm.
Meanwhile, Satkhira Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Nurul Islam said, "Initial assumptions suggest that the fire may have originated from either transformer overheating or an electrical short circuit."
