70% citizens optimistic about fair national election: Survey

About 70% of respondents in a new survey believe the upcoming national election will be free, fair and impartial, while 15% expressed doubt about its credibility.

Around 12% preferred February 2026, 11% June 2026, while 25% opted for December 2026 or later.
The survey, titled Public Opinion, Experiences, and Expectations, July 2025, was conducted jointly by Voice for Reform and the Brac Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD).
The results were released today (11 August) at the National Archives Auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka. BIGD fellow Syeda Salina Aziz presented the keynote paper.
The survey also found that 55% want the election to be held within the initial timeline announced by the interim government's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, which is by June 2026.
According to the findings, optimism about the country's political future has declined from 71% in August last year to 42% in July this year.
The survey assessed the interim government's performance, public expectations for reform, and political party support ahead of the election.
Data was collected through telephone interviews with 5,489 men and women across 64 districts between 1 and 20 July this year.
