7 rivers in Barishal flowing above danger level
These levels are expected to return to normal within a few days, said an official of Barishal Water Development Board
The water levels of seven rivers in Barishal division exceeded the danger level due to low pressure and neap tide in the Bay of Bengal, while various areas are bracing for floods.
Tajul Islam, deputy assistant engineer of Barishal Water Development Board, provided this information this (16 September) evening.
Citing a survey report, the official said 8 out of 12 key river points in the division are experiencing water levels significantly above the danger mark while the remaining rivers are also approaching the danger limit.

He explained that water levels in southern region rivers rise during the monsoon season.
These levels are expected to return to normal within a few days, he said, adding that rising water can damage dams, fish enclosures, and crop fields.
According to the official, the Bishkhali River is flowing 6cm above the danger level at the Sadar upazila point in Jhalakathi district, 6cm above at Barguna Sadar upazila, 17cm above at Patharghata upazila, 13cm above at Betagi upazila, and 1cm above at Daulatkhan upazila point in Bhola district.
The water level of Meghna River is flowing 67cm above the danger mark at Tajumuddin upazila in Pirojpur. The Baleshwar River in Sadar upazila is flowing 11cm above the danger level, while the Kancha River is flowing 13cm above at Umedpur point.
Meanwhile, the Tentulia River in Bhola Kheyaghat, Kirtekhola in Barisal, Payra in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali, and Burishwar River in Amtali upazila of Barguna are approaching their danger levels.
