A new survey has found that 68% of female voters and 46% of male voters in Bangladesh have never heard of or have no understanding of the proportional representation (PR) system for the upper house of parliament.
Md Rubaiyath Sarwar, managing director of Innovision Consulting, presented the findings during an event held today (13 October) at the BDBL Building in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
The nationwide survey, titled "People's Election Pulse Survey: Round 2- Part 3", was conducted by Innovision Consulting and carried out between 2 and 15 September, covering a total of 10,413 voters.
The survey comes four months ahead of the national elections, scheduled for February 2026.
It also revealed that 27% of male voters and 15.5% of female voters said they support the introduction of PR, while 27.1% of women and 16.3% of men said they do not support it.
Among them, 5,639 were men and 4,719 were women who responded to questions related to the PR system.
Overall, 56% of all respondents, men and women combined, reported having no idea about the PR system.
The research was conducted in collaboration with think tank BRAIN and the civic platform Voice for Reform, whose co-convener Fahim Mashroor moderated the event.
