6 cops withdrawn over bribery allegation in Brahmanbaria
The officers allegedly demanded and received a bribe of Tk80,000 from a van owner

Six members of the Khatihata Highway Police Station in Brahmanbaria, including Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mamun Rahman and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Biplu Barua, have been withdrawn on charges of taking bribes.
The withdrawal order was issued yesterday (14 July), following allegations that the officers took Tk80,000 from the driver of a Dhaka-bound covered van transporting goods from Sylhet.
According to highway police and local sources, on 3 July, a team from the Khatihata Highway Police Station stopped the van and accused it of carrying illegal goods. The officers allegedly demanded and received a bribe of Tk80,000 from the vehicle's operator.
After the incident was reported by a private television channel, the six officers were withdrawn and attached to the office of the Superintendent of Police of the Highway Police's Cumilla Region as a disciplinary measure.
Confirming the withdrawals based on the complaint, Additional Superintendent of Police of the Highway Police Cumilla Region, Kirtiman Chakma, said, "Investigation into the matter is ongoing. If the allegations are proven, action will be taken against those responsible in line with departmental rules."
