4.1 magnitude earthquake jolts Sylhet and surrounding areas
Recurring seismic activity has created anxiety among people in Sylhet.
A mild earthquake was felt in Sylhet and its surrounding areas at 12:46pm today (19 February).
According to sources at the Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the latest quake was in Chatak Upazila of Sunamganj district. The tremor measured 4.1 on the Richter scale.
Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana said the earthquake was mild in intensity and no reports of damage or casualties have been received. Many residents did not even notice the tremor, she added.
However, recurring seismic activity has created anxiety among people in Sylhet.
Earlier, on 10 February, Sylhet was shaken by another earthquake at 5:32pm, which measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of that quake was in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet.
Before that, on 1 February, a 3.0 magnitude mild earthquake struck various parts of the country, including Sylhet, at around 4am.
