Four people were killed and at least 16 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway in Munshiganj's Sreenagar early this morning (28 June).

The accident took place on the Dhaka-bound lane in front of the Singpara underpass, opposite Hasara Highway Police Station.

Dewan Azad Hossain, station officer at Sreenagar Fire Service, confirmed the casualties and said the bus had been transporting passengers from Nawapara, Jashore to Dhaka to attend a rally organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh.

The deceased have been identified as Jalal Uddin and Zillur Rahman from Jashore Sadar upazila, Abdul Halim, and a truck helper named Hasib.

According to police, fire service officials and eyewitnesses, a night coach operated by Hamdan Paribahan lost control and rammed into the back of a moving truck. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off and hit the road divider.

Two people died at the scene. The fire service team arrived promptly, rescued the injured, and sent them to Dhaka for treatment. Two more later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

At least 16 others sustained injuries in the crash, several of whom are reported to be in critical condition, currently undergoing treatment at DMCH.

Following the incident, the highway police, local administration and rescue workers jointly removed the wrecked vehicles. Traffic was temporarily disrupted but later resumed.

Hasara Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Quader Jilani said, "The two vehicles involved in the accident have been removed. Two passengers died on the spot, while the truck helper and another bus passenger died at the hospital. The drivers of both the bus and truck fled the scene."

Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
