3 killed in landmine explosion at Naikhongchhari border
It is primarily suspected that the victims were caught in the explosion while returning after collecting wood and bamboo from the hills
Three people were killed in a landmine explosion at the Ghumdhum border area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
The incident occurred this afternoon (24 May) at the 42-number border pillar area of Phatrajhiri in Ghumdhum, confirmed Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of BGB's 34 Battalion in Cox's Bazar.
The deceased were identified as Lethaiya Chakma, 41; Ongkyamong Chakma, 50; and Chingkya Ong, 40 – all residents of Ghumdhum union in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban.
Lieutenant Colonel Khairul Alam said three locals were initially injured in the explosion.
They were rescued by locals and taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
He added that it is primarily suspected that the victims were caught in the explosion while returning after collecting wood and bamboo from the hills.
