2,50,012 expatriates register for postal voting
According to the EC website, 228,781 male and 21,231 female expatriate voters have completed registration.
A total of 250,012 expatriate Bangladeshis have so far registered through the Postal Vote BD app to cast their votes in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and the referendum.
The Election Commission (EC) disclosed the updated figure on its website this morning (8 december).
According to the EC website, 228,781 male and 21,231 female expatriate voters have completed registration.
Saudi Arabia has recorded the highest number of registrations (63,034), followed by the United States (20,049), Qatar (16,326), the United Arab Emirates (14,863), Malaysia (13,741) and Singapore (13,165).
The EC has extended the deadline for expatriate voters to correct incomplete or incorrect addresses in the app until 9 December at 9am (BST), according to a message issued yesterday.
Saleem Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out of Country Voting (OCV) System Development and Implementation (SDI) Project, confirmed the development to BSS.
Voters engaged in election duties, government officials staying outside their home constituencies, and voters in legal custody will be able to register for postal voting through the app until 25 December, the EC said in another statement.
The EC has urged expatriate voters to provide complete and accurate postal addresses while registering, noting that ballot papers cannot be delivered without proper address details.
Registration for expatriate voters-originally set to end on 18 December-has also been extended until 25 December, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed.
