2 killed, 10 injured as wedding party bus overturns in Ctg

Two people were killed and at least 10 others injured after a bus overturned on the Chattogram-Khagrachhari highway in Chattogram's Fatikchhari upazila today (9 March).

Confirming the matter, Fatikchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Muhammad Selim told The Business Standard that the incident occurred in the Pelagazi Dighi area of the upazila at around 5pm.

The deceased were identified as Tapu, 22, and Nayan, 18, both residents of Fatikchhari. The identities of the injured could not be immediately confirmed.

According to locals and police, the bus overturned while returning after attending a wedding reception programme in Manikchhari of Khagrachhari.

Following the accident, locals and firefighters rescued the injured and took them to Nazirhat Health Complex in Chattogram.

Nazirhat Health Complex Medical Officer Dr Mehedi Hasan said a total of 12 people were brought to the health complex following the accident.

"Two of them were brought dead," he said.

Among the injured, six people were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while one of them is in critical condition. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at Nazirhat Health Complex.
