Two cases have been filed against 25 individuals, including 17 named, and six arrested in connection with the murder of army officer Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar, who was stabbed during an arms recovery operation in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar on 24 September.

Chakaria police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manzur Kader Bhuiyan said the cases were filed on Wednesday night by the army and police.

One case, involving charges of murder and robbery, was filed by Senior Warrant Officer Abdullah Al Harunur Rashid from the Fasiakhali Army Camp, while Sub-Inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain lodged the second case under the Arms Act.

"So far, six named suspects have been arrested in a joint operation by the police and army," the OC added.

Meanwhile, Post, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam said the interim government will ensure an exemplary trial for the murder of Lt Tanzim Sarwar, reports UNB.

"We will ensure the strictest punishment for the murder. The investigation is ongoing, and no matter who is involved, they will face justice," he stated.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with Lt Tanzim's family members at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment, Nahid said, "This young and talented officer sacrificed his life to protect the lives and property of the people. His self-sacrifice will forever be remembered as a symbol of patriotism."

The government plans to honour Lt Tanzim's memory with state initiatives at his birthplace in Tangail, the adviser noted.

He said the recovery of illegal weapons across the country is ongoing despite challenges.
