2 arrested as RAB recovers 9 firearms, large cache of local weapons in Raozan
Two individuals — Kamal Uddin and his cousin Sohel — have been arrested
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 has recovered nine firearms and a substantial number of locally made sharp weapons, including machetes and cleavers, during an anti-crime operation in the Noapara area of Raozan upazila, Chattogram.
Two suspects, Kamal Uddin and his cousin Sohel, have been detained in connection with the seizure.
Confirming the development today morning (30 October), RAB-7 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Hafizur Rahman said the operation was conducted on the basis of confidential intelligence.
He stated, "Kamal Uddin is accused in three separate criminal cases. They are being interrogated, and a petition for remand will be submitted to the court for further questioning."
Responding to queries from journalists, the RAB official said that regular drives are being conducted across Raozan to maintain law and order following a series of murders and violent clashes in recent months. He added that the decision to establish a permanent RAB camp in the area rests with the government and higher authorities.
It may be recalled that on 25 October, a Jubo Dal activist named Alamgir Alam was shot dead in front of the Kaykobad Jame Mosque graveyard in Ward 9 of Raozan Municipality. Since August 2024, at least 17 people have been killed in Raozan amid political rivalries, territorial disputes, and extortion-related violence, leaving residents gripped by fear and insecurity.
