18 nomination papers cleared in four Cox's Bazar seats, five cancelled

The returning officer of Cox's Bazar has declared the nomination papers of 18 candidates valid across four parliamentary constituencies, while five were cancelled following scrutiny.

Scrutiny of nomination papers for the Cox's Bazar-3 (Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ramu, Eidgaon) and Cox's Bazar-4 (Ukhiya, Teknaf) seats was completed today.
In Cox's Bazar-3, six candidates submitted nomination papers.
The nomination of independent candidate Md Elias Mia was cancelled due to errors in voter signatory information.
The remaining five candidates were declared valid: BNP candidate Lutfur Rahman Kajal, Jamaat candidate Shahidul Alam Bahadur, Islami Andolan candidate Amirul Islam, Labour Party candidate Jagadish Barua, and Aam Janata Party candidate Nurul Abshar.
Of the five candidates in the Cox's Bazar-4 seat, the nomination paper of Liberal Democratic Party candidate Abdullah Al Arafat was primarily suspended due to an error in his educational certificate, but was later declared valid following further scrutiny.
The nomination papers of BNP candidate Shahjahan Chowdhury, Jamaat candidate Nur Ahmad Anwari, Islami Andolan candidate Nurul Huq, and Nationalist Democratic Movement candidate Saifuddin Khaled were declared valid.
Earlier, yesterday afternoon, scrutiny was conducted for the Cox's Bazar-1 (Chakaria, Pekua) seat, where five candidates had submitted nomination papers.
The returning officer declared the nominations of BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat candidate Abdullah Al Faruk, and Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate Md Abdul Kader valid.
The nominations of Islami Andolan candidate Md Sarwar Alam Kutubi and independent candidate Md Saiful Islam were cancelled.
Later the same day, scrutiny was completed for the Cox's Bazar-2 (Maheshkhali, Kutubdia) seat.
Of the seven candidates, the nomination papers of Jamaat Central Committee Assistant Secretary General AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad and independent candidate Golam Maula were cancelled.
The nominations of BNP candidate Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid, Islami Andolan candidate Ziaul Huq, Khelafat Majlish candidate Obaidul Kader Nadvi, Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate SM Roknuzzaman Khan, and Jatiya Party candidate Md Mahmudul Karim were declared valid.
According to the revised schedule announced by the Election Commission, appeals against the returning officer's decisions may be filed from 5 January to 9 January.
Appeals will be disposed of between 10 January and 18 January.
The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is 20 January, while symbols will be allocated on 21 January.
The 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum are scheduled to be held on 12 February.
