Home minister orders strict vigilance to prevent reoccupation of Cox's Bazar dunes
The visit follows earlier instructions given at a law-and-order committee meeting of the district, where he ordered the removal of all unauthorised establishments from the beach.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has instructed authorities to ensure that cleared dunes along Cox's Bazar Sea beach are not reoccupied following recent eviction drives against illegal structures.
The directive came during his visit to Sugandha Point this afternoon (22 March), where he inspected the situation after the drive.
The visit follows earlier instructions given at a law-and-order committee meeting of the district, where he ordered the removal of all unauthorised establishments from the beach.
In line with those directives, the district administration recently conducted drives to free up the occupied areas at Sugandha and Kolatali points. During the inspection, the minister urged the Tourist Police and local administration to remain vigilant to prevent any reoccupation.
He emphasised that preserving the natural beauty and environment of the beach is a priority, and no structures would be allowed on the dunes under any circumstances.
Traders affected by the eviction demanded rehabilitation during the visit. However, the minister reiterated that the government remains firm in its decision to keep the dunes free of structures to protect the beach's ecological balance and scenic beauty.
