At least 15 people were injured in a clash between residents of two villages in Sarail, Brahmanbaria, allegedly sparked by a request for tissue paper after eating fuchka in a restaurant.
The incident occurred last night (9 June) at Pathanpara intersection in the upazila headquarters. As a result of the clash, traffic on the Sarail-Lakhai road was halted for about two hours.
According to police and locals, the altercation began at a local eatery named "Arabian Fuchka House" located at the Pathanpara intersection on the Sarail-Lakhai road.
Rabbi, a young man from the Kuttapara area, asked for tissue paper after his meal. A restaurant staff member informed him that they had run out. This led to a verbal dispute between the two. When restaurant owner Mujibur Rahman intervened to resolve the matter, he and Rabbi got into a heated argument which escalated into a physical altercation.
In retaliation, residents from both Kuttapara and Pathanpara villages armed themselves with homemade weapons and engaged in a violent clash. The fight took place in the dark, with villagers using flashlights to see. At least 15 people from both sides were injured during the clash. Traffic on the Sarail-Lakhai road remained suspended from 8 PM to 10 PM due to the incident.
Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Hasan stated that the police brought the situation under control and normal traffic resumed. However, as of now, no formal complaint has been filed by either party at the police station.
