15 injured in repeated clashes between rival groups in Brahmanbaria
The clashes stemmed from a longstanding dispute between supporters of two former union chairmen in Brahmanbaria's Bijoynagar.
At least 15 people were injured in a series of clashes between two groups over previous enmity in Brahmanbaria's Bijoynagar today (27 September).
The clashes broke out in Ichapura village under Ichapura union from around 7am and continued in several phases, police and locals said.
The injured received treatment locally, according to locals.
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ahsan Ullah said police brought the situation under control.
"Necessary legal action is being taken in connection with the incident," he said.
According to Police and locals, supporters of two former Ichapura Union chairmen, Akhtar and Bokul, have long been in conflict over local dominance and other issues.
The latest dispute began yesterday (26 September), when an argument broke out between Enam, a supporter of Akhtar, and Rubel, a supporter of Bokul. The dispute later escalated into a clash between the two groups.
During the clash, houses belonging to supporters of both sides were reportedly vandalised and looted.
Following the incident, supporters of the two groups again clashed from around 7am today, using locally made weapons. At least 15 people were injured in the clashes, which took place in several phases.
