13 businesses fined Tk1.83 lakh for weight fraud
Two separate mobile court drives were conducted in Dhaka and Kishoreganj Sadar

Two separate mobile court drives of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the District Administration of Kishoreganj have imposed fines of Tk1.83 lakh on 13 business enterprises in Dhaka and Kishoreganj for weight and measurement fraud.
In Dhaka, one BSTI drive was conducted in Badda area, while the other was held in Kishoreganj Sadar.
The mobile court in Dhaka was led by BSTI Executive Magistrate, Md Amimul Ehsan, and he was accompanied by Assistant Director, Md Liakat Hossain and Inspector Billal Hossain.
The Kishoreganj drive was led by Ubaidur Rahman, executive magistrate of Kishoreganj District Administration, and he was accompanied by BSTI Inspector Nazmus Sadat.
Messrs Rafsan Builders, in Dhaka, was fined Tk50,000 as it was selling 400 grams less for every 100 kilograms, using its digital platform scale.
Messrs Khan Enterprise, another business institution in Dhaka, was also fined Tk50,000 for selling 600 grams and 500 grams less for every 100 kilograms on two of its 1,200-kilogram scales.
The joint mobile court in Kishoreganj Sadar led by BSTI and the District Administration, fined Messrs Rajmoni Mistanna Bhandar Tk10,000; Messrs Modon Gopal Sweets, Tk10,000 and Messrs Gour Govinda Sweets, Tk10,000 for weight fraud.
Messrs Narayan Bostraloy was fined Tk10,000 for using non-standard single yardsticks instead of metres to measure fabric; Messrs Bosak Bostraloy was fined Tk20,000.
The drive also fined Messrs Joy Bostrobitan Tk5,000 and Messrs Adhunik Bostraloy Tk3,000 for using metre scales without verification certificate.
Also, a fine of Tk10,000 was imposed on Polash Electronics Cable for using non-standard yardsticks; Tk5,000 on Messrs Dhrubho Electronics, and Tk5,000 on Messrs Star Video & Electronics.
On Wednesday, a surveillance team had lodged a case against Messrs Century Farms for not having weight, price, and production and expiration dates permanently visible on the packaging.
