10 journalists injured in attack at Satkhira Press Club

At least ten journalists were injured in an attack by alleged miscreants at the entrance of Satkhira Press Club around 12:30pm today (30 June).
Among the injured, Belal Hossain, DBC Television correspondent, Aminur Rahman of Bhorer Akash, and Toufiquzzaman Litu of Dhakar Dak suffered serious head injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
"We were attacked by outsiders as we were entering the press club. Two journalists suffered severe head injuries and are hospitalised," Satkhira Press Club President Abul Kashem told The Business Standard.

"Many others were also injured. The police were present at the time, but their role is questionable. The attack was led by the group currently occupying the press club," he added.
In protest, the press club has announced a human chain demonstration at the New Market intersection in Satkhira tomorrow morning (1 July).
Preparations for filing a legal case are underway.
Shaminul Haque, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, said, "We have tried to normalise the situation. The area is currently calm."
Amid heightened tension, members of the Bangladesh Army have been deployed at the press club premises.
The attack comes amid an ongoing dispute over the leadership of the Satkhira Press Club.
Following the post-5 August political shifts, two rival committees were formed — one led by Abu Sayeed and Abdul Bari and another by Abul Kashem and Asaduzzaman.
The incident occurred when around 70–80 journalists, led by Kashem and Asaduzzaman, attempted to enter the press club and were attacked by alleged outsiders.
