10 Awami League activists arrested while preparing for flash rally in Dhaka

Police arrested 10 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations early today (22 June) while they were allegedly preparing to stage a flash rally on Satmasjid Road in the capital's Dhanmondi area.

The arrested individuals are Md Ebadul Islam, 21; Milon Barai, 20; Md Sujon Sardar, 26; Sabuj Dhali, 28; Nipul Biswas, 29; Somu Dhali, 28; Ashok Dhali, 30; Md Saurav Hawlader, 23; Md Joy, 28; and Mahbub Hawlader, 40.
The information was confirmed by Niaz Mehdi, additional deputy commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
According to the DMP official, police conducted the raid based on confidential information and caught the 10 "active Awami League activists" red-handed while they were preparing for the rally on Satmasjid Road under Dhanmondi Model Police Station.
During the operation, police recovered 15 caps bearing the Jubo League emblem, eight T-shirts featuring photographs of party leaders and activists and a banner carrying the slogan, "Sheikh Hasina Ashbe, Bangladesh Hashbe."
Police also impounded the two buses and the private car used to transport the group.
The detainees have been shown arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act and have been sent to court, the DMP official added.
