Youth arrested in Chattogram for impersonating DGFI to extort BNP candidate
The OC said that following his arrest, a formal case has been filed against Tanavir at Hathazari police station. He has been sent to court, where further legal proceedings will take place
A youth named Mohammad Tanavir has been arrested for allegedly demanding money from a BNP candidate under the guise of being an officer of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
The arrest took place in the early hours of today (12 February) when a team of the army apprehended him and later handed him over to the local police.
Hathazari Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monzur Kader Bhuiya confirmed the incident, saying, "A youth, identifying himself as a DGFI officer, approached the personal assistant of Mir Helal, the BNP candidate for Chattogram-5, and demanded money. Upon receiving this information, an army team acted swiftly and apprehended him in the early hours of today. He was then handed over to the Hathazari police station for further investigation."
