Over 7.3 lakh postal ballots reach returning officers
Only the ballots received by returning officers by 4:30pm on 12 February will be included in the counting process.
More than 7.3 lakh postal ballots from within the country and abroad have reached the respective returning officers for the upcoming parliamentary election and referendum.
The information was disclosed in a statement issued by the Election Commission (EC) today (10 February).
According to the EC, a total of 7,66,862 ballot papers were sent overseas to facilitate expatriate voters. Of these, 4,71,957 expatriates cast their votes and sent them back to Bangladesh. However, so far, 4,19,918 ballots have reached the returning officers, while the remaining ballots are believed to be in transit.
Within the country, ballot papers were sent to 7,60,898 voters, including government employees, prisoners, and those unable to go to polling stations. Among them, 3,10,154 voters completed their ballots and returned them to the returning officers.
The EC said the collection of postal ballots is still ongoing. Only the ballots received by returning officers by 4:30pm on 12 February will be included in the counting process.
