More than 10 lakh postal ballots from within the country and abroad have so far reached the returning officers for tomorrow's national election and referendum, the Election Commission (EC) said today (11 February).

For expatriate voters, the commission termed postal voting a milestone initiative, enabling Bangladeshis living abroad to take part in the electoral process.
A total of 7,66,862 ballot papers were sent overseas. Of these, 5,43,499 voters received their ballots, while 5,31,214 completed voting, and 5,23,497 deposited their ballots in postal boxes in their respective countries.
So far, 4,91,615 ballots from abroad have reached Bangladesh, and 4,66,243 of those have been received by the returning officers, while the rest are in transit, the EC said.
Within the country, progress has also been recorded in the Inland Contingent Postal Voting system, introduced for voters unable to go to polling stations in person. Of the 7,60,898 ballot papers sent, 6,45,798 voters received them, 6,26,149 completed voting, and 6,13,510 deposited their ballots in postal boxes. A total of 5,35,453 ballots have so far reached the returning officers.
The EC said the collection of postal ballots is still ongoing. Only the ballots received by returning officers by 4:30pm on 12 February will be included in the counting process.
