National polls: 1,051 executive magistrates appointed nationwide for mobile courts

The government has appointed 1,051 officers from the Ministry of Public Administration as executive magistrates to conduct mobile courts ahead of the 12 February national election and referendum.
The appointed executive magistrates are required to report to their respective district magistrates or returning officers on 7 February, according to a notification issued by the ministry yesterday (3 February).
The district magistrates or returning officers will assign jurisdictions and distribute responsibilities to ensure smooth operation of the mobile courts.
The officers have been empowered to conduct mobile courts nationwide under Section 5 of the Mobile Court Act, 2009, from 8 to 14 February.
The notification states that the mobile courts will operate in coordination with law enforcement agencies deployed for the election, including mobile and striking forces, with special focus on the BGB and Coast Guard, to maintain law and order and prevent crime in election areas.
Executive magistrates from Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Dhaka divisions will receive special training on 5 February at 10am, while those from Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions will be trained at 2:30pm. Their training will be conducted online.
