Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury cast his vote in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and 2026 Referendum today (12 February) at Baridhara Scholars International School and College polling centre in Baridhara, Dhaka, at 10am.
Speaking to journalists after voting, the adviser highlighted the critical role of media in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.
He said the truthful reporting by local journalists had helped counter misinformation and propaganda from foreign media, particularly from India.
He added that accurate and objective reporting during the national election could similarly prevent rumours and false narratives.
Expressing confidence in the election process, he noted that aside from a few isolated incidents, polling has been conducted smoothly in a peaceful and festive environment.
He affirmed that this year's election would be free, fair, peaceful, credible, and celebratory.
Following his vote, the adviser visited the Law and Order Central Coordination Cell at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Operations Control Room at Police Headquarters to review security arrangements for the ongoing elections.
