‘Feels good’: Tamim Iqbal after voting for the first time
He arrived at the polling centre in his private vehicle under army protocol
Cricketer Tamim Iqbal expressed his joy after casting his vote in the 13th National Election and Referendum.
He exercised his franchise shortly after 11am today (12 February) at the Regional Public Administration Centre polling station at Askar Dighi Par in Chattogram city.
He arrived at the polling centre in his private vehicle under army protocol. The centre is located just a few hundred yards from his residence in Kazir Dewri in the city.
After voting, he was escorted home by the army. However, as he walked out of the polling centre, journalists asked him several questions.
Responding to reporters, Tamim said, "I have voted for the first time in my life. It feels good. The voting environment was also good. I voted for my preferred candidate."
In Chattogram-09, which includes Kotwali, Bakalia, and Chawkbazar, BNP's Mohammad Abu Sufian and Jamaat's AKM Fazlul Haque are contesting.
According to data from the returning officers' offices, a total of 115 candidates are contesting in 16 constituencies in Chattogram.
The total number of voters in the district stands at 66,82,517. Of them, 34,83,887 are male voters and 31,98,560 are female voters. There are 70 transgender voters.
In this year's election, Chattogram has 1,965 polling centres with 12,601 polling booths. Each centre will have one presiding officer. Of the total centres, 653 have been identified as risky.
