Faridpur-4 BNP candidate alleges influence of Nixon Chowdhury’s black money in election
He further claimed that Muzahid and his supporters, with the assistance of Nixon’s associate Nazrul, have been roaming the area at night in vehicle convoys using looted black money.
BNP-nominated candidate Shahidul Islam Babul has alleged that black money belonging to fugitive Awami League leader and former lawmaker Nixon Chowdhury is being used to influence the election in Faridpur-4 (Bhanga, Sadarpur and Charbhadrasan) constituency.
Babul made the allegations at a press briefing held at his residence in the Kathpatti area of Sadarpur around 11am this morning (6 February).
Speaking at the briefing, Babul said that independent candidate Muzahid Baig has not entered the race to contest the election but to sabotage it. He warned that unless the situation is brought under control, politics of violence in the area will continue.
He also warned that if any untoward incident occurs, his party will not take responsibility. He also said that he would submit a written complaint to the EC over the matter.
Babul alleged that Nixon Chowdhury, who has been elected as an MP from the constituency multiple times, still has a strong network in the area.
He claimed that Nixon held several Zoom and group meetings with his associates to undermine the election process.
He further claimed that Muzahid and his supporters, with the assistance of Nixon's associate Nazrul, have been roaming the area at night in vehicle convoys using looted black money.
Babul also dismissed allegations of attack made by Muzahid at a press conference on 1 February, claiming these were aimed at discrediting and sabotaging the election and misleading the public.
He alleged that by calling the current polls the worst election in history, Muzahid was attempting to legitimise what he described as the "dummy election" of 2024.
During the press briefing, Babul accused Muzahid's brothers, Panna Baig and Sajib Baig, of openly parading with weapons and demanded immediate action against them.
Several BNP leaders, including Sadarpur and Bhanga Upazila presidents, former Charbhadrasan chairman, district Farmers' Secretary, and Metropolitan Krishak Dal convener, attended the press briefing.
